Automation Engineer

Job Summary

Responsible for developing functional and process control designs, SCADA and interface programming, PLC/DDC integration, panel and instrumentation design, software modifications, troubleshooting, and SCADA installation design delivery. The role also involves project cost estimation, system testing and commissioning, vulnerability assessments, implementation management, and system engineering project lifecycle deliverables.

Key Responsibilities

1. Develop functional and process designs, including control write-ups and control schematics.
2. Perform SCADA engineering programming and interface programming.
3. Integrate PLC/DDC systems with other controllers, routers, and gateways.
4. Develop hardware and software design specifications, software documentation, and test documentation.
5. Design control panels and instrumentation, and prepare relevant drawings and method statements.
6. Modify software according to field requirements.
7. Perform troubleshooting remotely and on-site.
8. Act as the single point of contact for all associated SCADA installation design activities.
9. Ensure delivery of SCADA installation designs.
10. Estimate project costs.
11. Present information clearly in one-to-one and group settings.
12. Monitor device changes, investigate the reasons for changes, and document the findings.
13. Conduct periodic vulnerability assessments.
14. Drive all required implementation processes and project tollgate steps, including requirements gathering, process-flow documentation, testing, data validation, training, post-go-live support, and other project-related activities.
15. Work with process engineering and quality team leaders to identify and deliver process-simplification solutions that reduce costs and cycle time while improving quality.
16. Build strong partnerships with cross-functional team members.
17. Maintain consistent communication on project status and operational improvements.
18. Manage and coordinate the planning, definition, and delivery of system engineering project lifecycle deliverables.

Qualifications & Education

1. Degree or Diploma in Electrical, Electronics, Instrumentation, or Computer Engineering.

Experience Requirements

1. Minimum 3–4 years of relevant experience in industrial control systems.
2. Experience in the pharmaceutical industry is an added advantage.
3. Experience in control systems architecture, hardware, system software, HMI, PLC, and data acquisition is required.
4. Experience in panel design and instrumentation design is required.
5. Experience in site testing and commissioning with the user is required.
6. Experience in system training and preparation of system operations and maintenance (O&M) documentation is required.
7. Experience supporting systems through remote computer access and providing telephone support to on-site operations is required.
8. Experience writing software programmes in C, C++, C#, Oracle, and PL/SQL.

2. RTU/EFM devices and other SCADA-related field devices.
3. SCADA system processes.

Operating Systems & Applications

1. Knowledge and proficiency in operating and maintaining MS Windows-based computers and MS Office applications are required.

Required Skills & Competencies

1. Self-motivated, with the ability to work independently.
2. Ability to collaborate with multiple teams, including operational staff, client managers, vendors, and contractors, through on-site presence, telephone, and email.
